Residential Services

For people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, having a home is an important step in building self-esteem as independent adults.

Arc of Genesee Orleans provides residential options to meet a variety of needs. Residential services include Supervised Individualized Residential Alternatives (IRAs), Supportive Individualized Residential Alternatives, Family Care Homes and Respite.

Supervised Individualized Residential Alternatives

Individuals in this certified living environment can receive 24-hour supervision, if needed, by staff trained to encourage the highest level of independence and decision-making. Staff also offer training in daily living skills, socialization, and recreation. This setting offers the most structure and is designed to accommodate the individual’s unique residential needs.

Supportive Individualized Residential Alternatives

The individuals in this program receive assistance in a certified apartment setting, according to their needs. Residential staff provide training in independent living skills and help link residents to community-related services and activities.

Family Care Program

This residential option provides a loving, nurturing family environment with less structure than a traditional residential setting. Family care providers trained by the state Office of People With Developmental Disabilities support each individual’s growth and development by offering understanding, guidance, and supervision. Staff assist with budgeting, goals, appointments, and provide 24-hour care.

Respite Services

Respite care is short-term, temporary care that helps a family take a break from the daily routine of care-giving duties. The respite provider may be an aide or nurse, depending on your needs. Arc of Genesee Orleans provides respite services to individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities and has two locations in certified homes which offer from one day to a few weeks of care-giving. Eligibility for service encouraged, however emergency accommodations are available. For more information call our Residential Services Office at (585) 344-1678.

Mental Health Community Residence

Our 12-bed residence is the only program that offers 24-hour care to people who have a serious mental health diagnosis in Orleans County. Respite services are also offered at the residence in conjunction with Orleans County Mental Health.
